About Us

Bloomsbury Capital is the only real-money student fund at UCL. Founded in 2012 by James Ghent, the society currently has $20,000 AUM and has achieved an annual return rate of 15% since inception.

There are 6-8 investment teams each year composed of an associate leading several analysts to develop a stock pitch. Two stock pitches are delivered each week and the non-pitching teams participate in engaging Q&A sessions - probing the investment idea from various angles. Through the pitching and Q&A sessions, BC analysts receive broad training evaluating different industries, business models, investment theses, and beyond.

An associate leads a team of 4 analysts to develop stock pitches on a regular basis. Teams go through various processes including idea formulation, conducting research, and building financial models. All teams are geographic and sector agnostic that enables analysts to gain broad exposure to different investment opportunities.

Every week, two teams present their stock pitch to the fund and engage in an investment committee style Q&A. The questions cover a wide range of angles, including the team’s variance view to the market and trade strategy. Through this process, analysts learn to have an “investor mindset” and evaluate an investment holistically.

Three alumni pitches are held throughout the academic year. BC alumni with experience at Marshall Wace, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs, etc. are invited to sit in for the top pitches. Analysts are given the unique opportunity to learn how seasoned finance professionals evaluate investment opportunities.
